There is something so magical about the 4th of July. Parades, fireworks, family, friends, sunny weather and amazing food- what could be better? Growing up, our family spent every 4th of July in the tiny town of my dad’s childhood. We all stayed at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, a 150-year-old historical home on Main Street, and after the small town parade, we had a huge family picnic on the front lawn. Such extended family came that sometimes I wondered if we welcomed a few passersby without knowing they weren’t actually blood relatives. Valentine’s Day Decor | A Christmas Card Upcycle 💕

When it comes to decorating for any holiday, I fall squarely in the “less is more” camp. Which is the friendly cousin of the “keep it simple” principle. In other words, I’m a little bit lazy.  If I’m only putting out a few decor pieces to celebrate a season or holiday, they need to check a few boxes: It has to be pretty! It has to be meaningful/personal! It would be nice if it were easy… Inexpensive is a bonus!  This year I tried something new, and I love it so much that I will definitely be repeating it! Gramma Nan's Famous Valentine's Oatmeal Sugar Cookies

Anyone who knows us has most likely heard of Gramma Nan. She is truly the [wo]man, the myth, the legend. We make these cookies every Valentine's Day in her honor--we love her, and we love these cookies! 1 ½ C. Sugar 1 ½ C. Butter 2 Eggs (Beaten) 3 C. Flour 2 C. Oatmeal 2 tsp. Baking Powder 1 tsp. Salt 4 T. Milk 2 tsp. Vanilla Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Add rest of ingredients (except oats). Add oats. Beat 2 minutes. Roll dough onto lightly floured surface, cut out in large heart shapes. Bake at 375° for 10-15 min. Frost with your favorite frosting and ENJOY!
